How To HOst a Feast: Traineeships at The gleaners cafe

We are offering volunteer traineeships for those wanting to learn about large, scale, plant-based cooking and community meals. We are looking for those with lived experience of seeking asylum who enjoy cooking and have an interest in food, and can attend a minimum of 4 sessions at the café on a Wednesday or Thursday between 11.30am-3pm.

Traineeships start from February 20th 2025.

We welcome different skill and language levels in the kitchen, and are offering some slots for those specifically wishing to practice English Language. Trainees will help provide ‘pay-what-you-can’ meals, and will need to uphold our values of experimentation, care and joy in the kitchen!

You don’t need previous kitchen experience - only an enthusiasm for cooking with local, seasonal produce.

Everyday at the Gleaners Café is different: we cook from surplus produce, and encourage all our volunteers to collaborate with us on menu design.

Learners will gain knowledge of local food networks, growing sites, an understanding of nutrition in plant-based cooking, and methods of upscaling flavours and recipes for large numbers.
